John Patrick Shanley was interviewed by NY1's Budd Mishkin. Below is a quote from the interview which clearly tells us how Doubt came to life:
Shanley eventually connected with one teacher whom he says recognized his creative talent. Years later, the teacher was accused of abusing other boys. Shanley says nothing happened between the two of them, though he did have suspicions about the teacher's interest in him.
"Did I intentionally blind myself to that in order to get what I need and get through? Absolutely! Did I know that he was abusing other boys, literally? No. Does it surprise me? No," he said. "Was he a force for good in my life? Yes and no."

Not so much Ron-related as Walter Kerr Theatre related:
Watched the Tony's last night, and boy did I get a twinge when they showed the marquee for "Grey Gardens" at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
I swooned under that marquee last year! And I bet many others here did, too!

Oh, Doobrah, I was there when they put it up and when they took it down. I was thrilled at the start, especially when I was walking down the street with Ron one day, pointed up to the marquee and said "really, how cool is it to see yourself on a marquee?" And he turned to me with a sheepish look on his face and said "well, there's a bigger one around the corner..." We laughed over that! As they took it down, I was sad for many reasons beyond the obvious.

That is so exciting, Chris! With or without the Blond Dude, it's a great play. Please be sure to give us a "review."

Going into the theatre I had very high expectations having read so much about the play. My expectations were more than fulfilled, even without the Blond Dude it was a great play!!! The theatre is very small with the front row a few feet from the stage so it was a very intimate setting. I sat on fourth row with the look of a four-year old in a candy store on my face!!! ;D All smiling and happy looking. The actor who played Father Flynn looked a lot like RE (though not as attractive ) but I think his Father Flynn was more of a wuss than the one played by Ron? Oh - and his nails were fake!!!! I absolutely LOVED Sister Aloysious. So she said some horrible things and was a very cold woman but at the same time she was fun. The actress playing Sister Aloysious played her as this hard, unforgiving woman but with an underlying tone of love for her character so despite of her many flaws you couldn't help but to love her. I read a review of the play that said that she should get the "Reumert Award" for her performance. A "Reumert" is the highest recognition a Danish actor can get and she absolutely deserves it. It was such a strong performance and by far the best in the show. The other performances were not bad at all but her's was outstanding. Chris, tell me what you think, okay!!!! And have a great time!!!!!! I think I stand alone in the priest's guilt, but........ I await you! Was he guilty?? Hmmm... That I will answer in the "Doubt" thread where the rest of you have already discussed whether or not he did it.... Take care and keep smiling - Chris

Not about Ron, sorry! But this seems to be the main Doubt thread.
It's spring, my fave time of year, when all the theatre companies announce their schedules for the next year.
It's coming here in Feb 2009!! Here's the blurb:
Doubt: a Parable By JOHN PATRICK SHANLEY Directed by MILES POTTER
Winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play
What do you do when you’re not sure? How far can our perceptions lead us and when should we let doubt be our guide? Set in a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, Sister Aloysius suspects a student is getting too much attention from the progressive Father Flynn, unleashing a clash of moral certainty and troubled conscience. This Broadway hit was hailed by the Associated Press as “the number one play of the year.”
I think the subtitle of "a Parable" is very interesting. Has anyone else heard it described that way?
I can hardly wait to see what everyone has been discussing for years! Whoo hoo!
