I think the stories are as good as ever this year, but I do miss the Palledinos. The writing isn't as crisp this year and some of the excessive chattiness feels forced now--like the characters are just babbling for the sake of babbling and not because they have anything clever to say during the course of their rants. Me too. I think that even if this was not planned to be its last season, it probably would be. I'm not sure what the ratings are doing but I know lots of people who don't like it as much this year or have stopped watching it totally. 7 years is a pretty good run! It started out as my favorite show, then it went to second place for Everwood. After Everwood was cancelled it stayed in second place, Monk is now better. (I am not counting the few months where BJ was my fave show, such a brief period--sigh.) Better to go out with a bang than limp on and on. Simpsons anyone?

Shmeep posting about the BJ guest star on GG's reminded me--I have been meaning to post this since Wednesday.
Someone get the mop! I am STILL in a puddle on the floor.
Shirtless Luke in the pool. Wow. OMG. Mega, mega drool.
(I couldn't believe how great his chest looked, because I had no idea from his usual plaid. He always looks kind of slumped, not as built as he is).

Wow. OMG. Mega, mega drool. (I couldn't believe how great his chest looked, because I had no idea from his usual plaid. He always looks kind of slumped, not as built as he is). Yeah, they do hide Luke's hotness quite a bit on that show--which is something I like because when we do get to see him shirtless or in a suit or looking in any way different, it's always startling. His character is so completely devoid of all vanity that when we do see him without a shirt, it almost seems like an invasion of his privacy because he doesn't flaunt anything. Not that I'd mind some flaunting, mind you. I thought that episode was the best so far this season. Great character interactions all around and the writing was almost as good as the early seasons. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. I'm even starting to see why Lorelai and Christopher can be good together and it's sweet that Rory's parents are together at last. Still...her chemistry with Luke was so much better, until the stupid writers destroyed it. They seemed to think it best to keep them apart until the bitter end without seeing all the potential of a married L/L. Do they not think marriage provides enough conflict for a series? The audience would far rather see L/L facing troubles together than the troubles being what keep them apart. I'm still mad about that--as is much of the show's audience. Oh well. I don't know how they're going to write their way out of this one.

April's mom has not yet returned, so like I said in an earlier post, I'm curious to see if she won't for some reason. Would they get together somehow? April likes Lorelai! One other thing was odd this episode. Remember when Laine was babysitting April, and Laine kind of winced? April asked what was wrong, and Laine said nothing. I sure hope it really was nothing.

Oh, I don't think there's anything wrong. I think it was the writer's subtle little way of reminding us that she's pregnant but not yet telling most people. I have a feeling Lane and Zach will have a baby this year.

This is for Hoosier and anyone else who may not watch the show anymore but is still interested:
Lorelai and Christopher got married! OMG, I couldn't believe it. But she looks very, very miserable. I was totally shocked. Why do it if you don't want to?
And Laine is pregnant with twins.
I can hardly wait for next week! Will they have a quickie divorce? Very, very intriguing.

Aha! Here's part of the blurb from next week's episode. I knew, somehow, Luke would have to have something to do with Lorelai or Rory to still be such a regular part of the series!
Meanwhile, when April (Vanessa Marano) faces a medical emergency, a frantic Luke (Scott Patterson) turns to Lorelai for help.

Thanks for thinking of me! Poor Lorelai! Like I said before, I think she just doesn't know what she wants. Or its a knee-jerk reaction against something. Did she fall back with Christopher because she felt comfortable with him--being her first love and all--or retaliation against Luke's involvement with his daughter? She does seem to need to be the center of attention and Christopher probably understands that. Not saying that Luke doesn't but he seems more down to earth and would likely tell her to get over it. And Laine! What will Mrs. Kim think!!! And do!! Will it be he## and damnation or a shotgun wedding!

Whew! Had me worried there for a minute! Is there a Mr. Kim in the picture? I never seem to remember him being around.

I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I don't think we've ever seen him. Mrs. Kim must be a widow--that seems more likely than divorce. Mr. Kim is one of those mystery characters we've never seen on camera but to whom references are made from time to time. In the beginning, Lane always spoke of her parents, plural, but all we ever saw was her mom. For a long time, I assumed this was done intentionally to keep us guessing about Mr. Kim, but in the last season or two, with the wedding and family dinners, his unexplained absense is becomming a bit odd. I think they should either show him or explain his absense at some point because I've seen every episode--some several times--and there has never been an explanation and there is no good reason for why he's not on camera. It's not done in an obvious enough way for it to me a mystery or a gag. As it is, I can only assume that Mr. and Mrs. Kim are still married but that Mrs. Kim (by far my favorite character on the show) is so dominant that we just never notice Mr. Kim.

My favorite is Emily. What a great life! And more complex than the series gives her credit for. She really knows her mind. Last night. Poor Luke! Did you see the look on his face when he saw Lorelai's wedding ring? Tragic and heartbroken. And the movie clip at the end. Teasing! I can't see him declaring his love, the time's past, but what on earth will happen? And right on Rory, move out. You were beginning to be like a kept woman. About time!

OK. I suppose I should be chalking this up to the vagaries of television, but it bugs me! How big is Stars Hollow? I have always thought of it as quite small, maybe a few thousand people. Everyone seems to know each other. Only a few dozen ever show up for town meetings, there seems to be just one street with shops, and we know until the new supermarket came there was just Doz's market. I never thought about this before until last Tuesday's episode. After Luke gave his ultimatum to Ana, I started to wonder. If Stars Hollow is really that small, then wouldn't Luke have known Ana was pregnant? And even if he missed those nine months, how could he have never seen her with April? So maybe Stars Hollow is bigger than I think. Guess I need to get a life BTW, here's part of the blurb for next week's episode: Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) share a sweet moment when Luke introduces her to Liz's new baby. Christopher (David Sutcliffe) witnesses the scene and it adds to his concern that Lorelai isn't fully committed to their marriage. The next day, Lorelai and Christopher get into a fight over whether they should exchange vows at the elaborate wedding party Emily (Kelly Bishop) is throwing for them.
Luke contacts a lawyer over his custody troubles with Ana, then runs into Christopher and the two have an ugly confrontation in the streets of Stars Hollow.Looking good!

If Stars Hollow is really that small, then wouldn't Luke have known Ana was pregnant? And even if he missed those nine months, how could he have never seen her with April? So maybe Stars Hollow is bigger than I think. I never assumed Anna and April lived in Stars Hollow. I think they live in another small town not too many miles away. Stars Hollow is a very small place and most of the time when anyone goes to a nice store or restaurant, it's in another town. Even if April only lives a few miles away, it's realistic to think that Luke never encountered her because he was never one to get out much and Anna wasn't about go hang out where she knows he always is. The only weird thing is that April is able to continue going to her school even though she's living out of town. That would work if Luke drove her there, but she always seems to have some random friend whose mom picks her up for school so either that mom is driving miles out of her way to get April or there is someone else living far from her school for whatever reason. That doesn't make a lot of sense, but I still buy that Stars Hollow is tiny and that Anna doesn't live there.
