It's been so long since the show's been on, I'd forgotten how good it is. Nice to have something really, really good to watch again.
Coach Taylor sure does have his work cut out for him. The locker room at halftime was heartbreaking. From the preview, it looks as if he's going to get a lot of criticism for forfeiting, but what choice did he have, really? It just showed the quality of the guy, putting his players' welfare first, instead of the usual win-at-all-costs mentality.
I have to wonder, however, why his team was that bad. I know the school district lines were gerrymandered so that all the good football players would go to Dillon (West). But CT's team didn't seem to know very much at all about the game. Even if they weren't the top tier of players, wouldn't they at least have played the game at some point? This is Texas, after all.
I absolutely loved the way Tami double-crossed McCoy and his handpicked coach on the coin toss, then left to go to the East Dillon game. I wonder if she'll let Julie transfer.
Matt Saracen continues to break my heart. A teenaged boy should not be the sole caretaker of his grandmother with dementia. I guess it's a way of keeping him in Dillon and on the show, but for how long? Pretty soon, her condition is going to deteriorate to the point where she can't be left alone. What then? I only hope he somehow makes it to art school in Chicago eventually.
Tim Riggins sabotages himself -- again. Sigh. At least it's in character. Again, I suppose it's a way to get him back to Dillon so he can stay part of the cast. But, Tim, you're a football player. NCAA or no NCAA, you don't have to worry about little things like going to class or actually doing the course work. I'm sure the coach has people to do that for you. And wouldn't Tim have been in a jocks' dorm, where that was one of the first things he learned after he arrived on campus?
