There's something kind of nice and laid back about the summer schedule. Shows on cable are often repeated a couple of times in case you missed them and there's not so much to record.
This is what I look forward to watching during the summer months:
Sunday:
The 4400 - USA 9:00 I got into this show last year and think it's really absorbing. It's about 4400 people who were abducted over a period of sixty years by some mysterious people from the future and then all returned to earth at once without any memory of where they had been and without having aged. Oh, and they have special powers so the government thinks they're a threat. This season is intriguing because a group of 4400's have broken off and are now blatantly against the feds. In the premiere on Sunday, the whole episode was about dreading a catastrophic event they were going to unleash upon the world and it turned out that they made wheat grow in an arid region of Africa, effectively feeding millions of people. But it was still revenge against the government because now they will have the people's support. I loved the twist.
The Dead Zone - USA 10:00 Starts up again on Sunday night. I always look forward to this show, but this may be the last season. Too bad. Anthony Michael is surprisingly easy on the eye and his Johnny Smith character is quite likable.
Monday: The Closer - TNT 9:00 Yay! Season two! This show gets better all the time. It premiered on Monday night and I was sucked right back in again--and I never even liked Kyra Sedgewick before. Great writing and acting and intriguing story lines.
Hell's Kitchen - FOX 9:00 Caught my first episode of this on Monday evening (The Boy wanted me to watch it with him) and it was all that I love to hate (and thus love) about reality shows: Twelve not-very-talented wannabe chefs all competing to win a really top-notch chef kind of job. The fun comes when they are all constantly terrorized by some Brit chef named Ramsey who gets bleeped every other word and subjects them to unthinkable abuse. Great fun, especially when he starts calling them names like "Big Boy" and, my personal favorite, "Mophead."
Tuesday: Rescue Me - FX 10:00 (Viewer discretion is advised) We've already said plenty about this one!
Friday: Psych - USA 10:00 This doesn't start until July 7, but it looks really good. It's about this guy who isn't psychic but pretends to be so he can help the police solve crimes. The commercials cracked me up so I'm in.
What else is on? I seem to be finding plenty of time to catch episodes of Little House on the Prairie and a local channel called G4 airs nightly back-to-back episodes of Star Trek: the Next Generation starting at 8 so there's always something on when I want to watch. I love that.

Everything I watch is in reruns right now. But I only have 5 channels, so I miss a lot anyway.
I watched the pilot of Windfall, but it didn't really grab me, so don't think I'll watch again.
I have been enjoying The Jane Show, which just started. I think it may be Canadian though--is anyone else getting it? It's a sitcom about a wannabe writer who has to go into the workplace for an office job. Wacky co-workers, the whole bit.
It's just filler though. I'm missing Everwood, Gilmore Girls, Monk, Prison Break a lot!
Plus my Canadian shows--Canadian Reflections, Royal Canadian Air Farce, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Mercer Report, and Godiva's.
Plus--will soon be starting another round of BJ!
Sorry Shmeep, didn't mean to go off track here, but I guess I did.

Sorry Shmeep, didn't mean to go off track here, but I guess I did. You didn't go off track at all. I started this thread because I'm curious about what people are watching this summer. I forgot to mention that I record The Daily show and The Colbert Report four nights a week, but I do that year round. Always good for a belly laugh. Jon Stewart went at Bill Bennett (gambling conservative talk show host) in a most beautiful fashion last week. This week Colbert reported on some rabid kitties that were sold at a Petsmart and I was proud and honored to know that they were local rabid kitties! They were sold out of a store in Greenbelt Maryland, fairly close to my metro stop. I saw it on the local news. Oh, that Colbert! He kills me, finding stories like that. Inuvik, I'm sorry to say that I don't know any of your Canadian shows, but I'm also missing Gilmore Girls and Prison Break. Wow. I doubt if many people can say they watch both of those shows. Also, I never saw Everwood, but I am sorry for your loss. I know it's undoubtedly a good show and a lot of people are very upset that that was dropped while Seventh Heaven and One Tree Hill were brought back. I'm thrilled I will still have my Veronica Mars, but what happened to Everwood just isn't right.

I am a BBC America junkie - and they've been airing these 2-part TV movies Mondays & Tuesdays and they're very good. They're called Murder Mystery Monday (& Tuesday) and they are definitely a guilty pleasure.
Then on Thursdays, they've just started a series, "Hex", about a boarding school girl who discovers she has powers, and a spirit from when the school was built in the 1600s is leaning on her to bring him back to life. Sounds kinda cheesy, but really is done well. And the British accents help elevate it from the cheese factor.
And for outright ROFLs, it's "Little Britain" on Fridays. Two guys do skits a la Monty Python (yes, even in drag sometimes).
"Entourage" is back on HBO -- let's hug it out.

I wasn't aware Seventh Heaven got uncancelled. That's great, I never watched it but my mom did. I'm glad about Veronica Mars for you though Shmeep--that's a good show too.

The last-minute uncanceling of Seventh Heaven is most likely the direct cause of Everwood's demise so be sure to tell your mom she'd better appreciate your sacrifice.

For those of you who watch The Closer, leave it on TNT at 10:00 and try Saved, which premiered this week. It's really fast- paced and different, about a paramedic in Portland, Oregon. Terrific cast and the lead is aDORable, a scruffy anti-hero type and decent eye-candy. The score is classic stuff -- Hendrix, The Doors, Johnny Cash -- used with wit and style. Oh, the pilot was a little obvious, since they were trying to cram a lot in, but this one is off the beaten track and definitely worth a try.

I also like The 4400. As I mentioned before, we don't have cable and I bought this on dvd. I need to order season 2 so I can get caught up. At first I thought it was going to be about people abducted in the Bermuda Triangle--ala Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I know not all of them were but some were . Been watching what seems like endless reruns but catching up on some shows missed because of scheduling conflicts. Also been watching several tvs on dvd such as Emergency, Knight Rider, Forever Knight ect. We just finished watching the made for tv miniseries Backstairs at the White House with Leslie Uggums and Olivia Cole. It was one of those that was shown only once (at least in our area) and was happy to see it out on dvd. They sure don't make them like that anymore.

Since I mentioned The Equalizer I thought I would resurrect an old thread. I have bought several dvds of old TV shows lately. As I also said, there is nothing on the tube worth watching. Reruns out the you know what. I recently finished Fall of Eagles, a BBC program from the 1970s (I think) about the fall of the Romanov, Hapsburgs and Hohenzollerns dynasties. Though a little dated, I enjoyed it immensely. I also have gotten the Tudors season one. I haven't finished that one yet. I just about tossed my cookies when they had the wrong sister (Margaret not Mary) marrying the wrong king (Portuguese not French) and then having the wrong sister marry Brandon! What is with that Come on people, I know its entertainment but can't you be historically correct? I had to get Firefly, another good show canceled, since I already had the movie Serenity. Plus the Closer. I have a wish list drawn up to get the Avengers (the tv show not the movie. Talk about mutilating and desecrating a tv icon ) and some other shows (and hoping to hear that Moonlight has been released and still hoping to learn about another show's hint, hint ). All this besides trying to get some reading done in between work and housework and everything else on my plate. *sigh* So little time. What is everyone else doing to combat the vast wasteland that is network television?

I've been watching JAG dvds. That is, when I'm not working, one of my coworkers quit and people are starting to take their weeks off for summer vacation, so I told the boss that I have no life and I could work extra hours if she needed me.

I thought the 4400 was a drama set in the White House. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave x 2.75 = the 4400. I don't know it, it doesn't really make sense now to me either. I had no idea the show eas about 4400 people. Guess I need to watch more TV.

Hey, eyephur -- hello and karma for the neurodiversity art! I'm just thankful I have basic cable, and that the cable stations are wise enough to premiere their seasons in the summer when the networks are doing what mlm828 calls R & R: reruns & reality. So I'm looking forward to new seasons of The Closer, Rescue Me, and (my guilty pleasure) Project Runway. And, when all else fails, I can always settle in with the needlepoint, a large glass of iced tea, and yet another Law & Order rerun. Sam Waterston never gets old. Not to mention my bjo set of BJ DVDs, and I'm so glad there's no time limit on contributing to The Great Anniversary Re-watch. ;D
