What always cracked me up about Mary Beth was that -- whiny, scratchy voice, bad dye job, and lack of personality notwithstanding -- she seemed to have an endless string of men on the hook. And blondes really shouldn't wear that taxing shade of green. As Woody Allen says, "Go know."

The other thing I always wondered about is how the Desmonds afforded to live that lifestyle - she was a cop's wife and appeared not to work - he worked two jobs - sometimes - yet she could afford to look at tennis bracelets, etc., and that was a mighty fine abode!

Well, she did mention cdredit cards when asked if they owed anyone money. Maybe she had maxed every card on offer and that's why he was doing 2 jobs and wanting to divorce her?

I think the reason he wanted to divorce her was because.....to quote, that "whiny, scratchy voice, a really bad dye job, lack of personality, an endless string of men on the hook, and that taxing shade of green! (I think she even used it in her decorating!)
Maybe that second job was his way of making sure he was never home, except when she was sleeping!

Natascha and I were watching this the other day and I noticed a half eaten cookie on the plate! I assume Jim maybe takes a bite out of it and then puts it on the plate. Never noticed that before.
Modified to add: I skimmed back through the thread, and I noticed mention of the half-eaten cookie in his hand but not on the plate. Elbows on the table and a half-eaten cookie back on the plate? For shame!

I watched this again the other day, and noticed from the camera angle behind Jim, you can see he is eating while to talking to Madam Whiney.

[/quote] Borrowing this from an earlier post of BJO, I had noticed that Mary Beth had several candles sprinkled about her living room. I thought it funny that she and Christie had something in common. Wonder why she had so many? To set the mood? To cover up the smell of the "obnoxious cologne"?
