You take beautiful pictures. Either you are a great photograper, you have a great camera or both!

Thanks Kathy for these, and also to everyone else who has posted here. I really enjoy reading them! It's the next best thing to travelling!
I go lots of places, but don't have a camera and aren't in to photography, or else I would share my adventures with you!

She seems to have a knack to get the right angles, and lighting. She took some great pictures when she was in RI this summer and I have been trying to convince her to enter them into photo contests. The newspaper here has one every year and i am going to bug her when it gets advertised to enter one of her pictures. She has given me a few photo books of our "excellent adventures in the big apple", and I am always amazed when I browse through them, how good they are. Oh and one of my favorite scenic pics of NY taken by our resident photographer:

Kathy, you are an artist!!!! Your pictures are absolutely stunning and like BJO I love your commentary, in particular those on Ground Zero. For some reason this one really got to me Since I first visited St. Paul’s two years ago, they have removed the pews to make their worship space more flexible. Two pews remain, however, as a memorial to the rescuers who slept on them after the attack. The scrape marks in the paint are from the equipment of the rescuers. Thank you for sharing your pictures. Oh, and Mary? I agree, very scenic - Chris

For the first time since I was a child, I went into New York City yesterday to drink in the Holiday atmosphere. I was with a group of people from work, but we all split up and went our own ways. My friend Jami and I struck off on a very spontaneously planned tour. Our first stop was Bryant Park, where they had a Holiday Market set up. This is a view from the park. We continued on to Fifth Avenue and walked uptown stopping to look at the Saks windows. We had to stand in line, but it was still early and the crowds were not too bad. The only problem was that my camera batteries died when I went to take a picture of the first window. By the time I got them changed, we only had a window or two left. This is the only one I snapped. Then it was across the street to Rockefeller Center to see the tree, an impressive sight in the daytime; but certainly more dramatic at night. We stopped at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and walked the entire circumference; which I had not done before. I am always awed by the sheer size of the building and the artistry and craftsmanship that went into creating it. We continued up 5th, enjoying the windows of Tiffany’s and Cartier as we made our way to Bergdorf’s. The windows of the men’s store were a little disturbing. All the mannequins had heads of animals like Penguins, wolves, etc.! It was really very odd. The women’s store had much more interesting windows! Unfortunately I couldn’t avoid the reflection of the buildings across the Avenue. We stopped at Trump Tower and had lunch at the cafe. Donald’s face/name appears just about everywhere you look…including the bottled water that we bought to have with our lunch! This is the Christmas tree reflected in the side of the escalator. We had gone on-line on Thursday to find “cheap” theatre tickets. We ended up with tickets to Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons”. The cast includes John Lithgow, Diane Weist, Patrick Wilson, and Katie Holmes. It was well worth seeing! Patrick Wilson was excellent as were John Lithgow (inspite of the fact that he will always be Dick from the 3rd Rock from the sun to me); and Diane Wiest. Even Katie Holmes did not disappoint! Our last stop was Grand Central Station, where we had heard there was a Holiday Light Show and a Christmas Market. The "light show" was disappointing. I think there must have been some sort of malfunction yesterday! But it is a beautiful building and the Market was fun, and that is where our day ended. It was a great mini-vacation!

That picture inside of St. Patrick's is magnificent! The light coming in those windows and the lines of the arches.. Must remember that when I enter you in that Photo contest if we ever find one.

What a cool workplace you work in! Sounds like a fabulous time. I kept looking at the reflection of the sign in one of the store windows, Caution: Recessed Crosswalk on 5th Avenue. And now I'm wondering how a crosswalk can be recessed? Is it dug deep into the street? And why?

There is a crosswalk there that is mid-block as opposed to being at an intersection. It goes across Fifth Avenue to Rockefeller center. I wonder if that is what they mean by recessed. It was not dug deep into the street! I love the image of that though...the cars driving over it particularly! I tried to google and didn't get a clear answer! Anyone else have an idea?

Hey Inuvik, it took me forever to find that reflected reversed sign that you saw in the window. How did you ever spot that? Then I did google "recessed crosswalks" and Kathy you are right. They are crosswalks that are not at corners but set between blocks. They were done as an experiment, I think to see if more people survived or something. Anyway one article I read said they are a failure. This picture was with the article and it happens to be that particular crosswalk as you can see St. Pat's on the other side, so it is the one right there at Sak's. These two girls seem to be jaywalking. That isn't you , is it?

Thanks for sharing, Kathy. As always you take great pictures window reflections or not. It brings back some great memories for me when I see some of those places. I have never seen NY at Christmas except on TV so that's cool too. ;D

I have never seen NY at Christmas except on TV so that's cool too. ;D Each time I am in the city I remember all the great times that I have had there with friends from the Board. That goes without saying! This time, we walked right past Bond 45 and I peeked in the window remembering those of you with whom I spent time with there! Can you believe that will be three years in March!!

Thanks Kathy - really special for me as we don't have White Christmases - (not complaining, ours are pretty good).
Grand Central is somewhere I know well but am never game to venture out of Southern Hemisphere at this time of the year as I know I'll be too cold (sad but true) but it's weird - so much of the Christmas thing is about cold-related things and I'd like to experience it one day.
Seeing somewhere I know well in all of it's winter glory is so interesting - I often wonder about weather and how it impacts on people. We don't really understand being cold here - luckily we get to experience it now becasue travel is so much more accessible.
You really are so very talented and your photos make it real. Thanks.

Speaking of cold--we have a winter storm warning in effect right now. From now until Monday, we will have mega mega snow, and the HIGH temperatures are -25 to -30. You still want to "understand" cold? Modified to add: Sorry, I'm a little bitter and PO'd about the weather right now!
