I haven't had time to post today until now, but, yes, C.Y. did win the vote, so he'll be in San Fancisco on Tuesday. Yay! The "polls" closed at 6 p.m. Eastern time today, which is why you couldn't vote again. To all who took the time to vote, thanks for your support!

I think this board gave him at least the last .5 million. I did my part. Good work M.

I thought I'd post this here instead of starting a new TV thread, since this will definitely appeal to baseball fans: ESPN -- yes, the sports channel -- premiered a new 8-part original drama last night called The Bronx is Burning. It's set in the summer of 1977 and interweaves two stories: the struggle for the New York Yankees to attain their former glory, focusing on the battle of wills between team owner George Steinbrenner and manager Billy Martin; and the Son of Sam killings in Queens. The Noo Yawk flavor is terrific and vintage footage is used to good effect. Daniel Sunjata (Franco on Rescue Me), plays Reggie Jackson to a faretheewell, and all I can say is I never knew what an egotistical jerk Reggie Jackson was! (He's about as likeable as Ty Cobb, who played the game brilliantly but was about as mean-spirited a man as ever lived.) Oliver Platt is a hoot as Steinbrenner. The one "miss," I think, is the usually wonderful actor John Turturro as Billy Martin. Not only does he lack any of Martin's Texas persona, the prosthetic ears he is forced to wear make him look more like Housemous's new avatar of Dobby than Billy Martin. Small matter, however, and I will be watching next Tuesday at 10:00 EST for episode 2. Highly recommended.

I watched it, too. Of course, my perspective -- that of a diehard Yankees hater (I couldn't even support them when I lived in New York!) -- is quite different from maggie's. Anything that portrays the Yankees as a bunch of egotistical, overpaid, and underperforming jerks (oh, wait, isn't that the current team?) is OK with me. Still, I agree that it's been well-done so far. "Franco" has done a great job in the role of Reggie Jackson. If Reggie really said those things to that reporter, he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is! It also brings back the feel of the mid-70s in NYC. I lived there until 1975 and made a trip back there in 1977 (during the summer under discussion), and as I recall, the city was in big trouble in a lot of ways. The first installment captured that very well, I thought. I also agree that John Turturro somehow isn't quite right in the role of Billy Martin.

Uh, hun? If you're from Queens, it's the New York Mets, sorry! Not only if you're from Queens. When I lived in Manhattan, I was a Mets fan. Of course, I was a confirmed Yankee-hater before I ever moved to New York, having grown up in the Washington, D.C. area during the years when the Senators were perpetual cellar-dwellers and the Yankees won every...single...year. Anyone remember the musical, Damn Yankees? Now that I live on the West Coast, I -- like most baseball fans West of the Hudson -- consider the Yankees the "Evil Empire." As for the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry -- enough already!

Well, I happen to be a die-hard Yankees fan, but the majority of men-folk in my family circle and friends are Queens-bred Mets fans - that's just the way it is.
