While it is very difficult for me to cheer for the Sens as a Leaf fan, I would love the cup to come to Canada. At the same time, there are a lot of Canadians on the Ducks so if would be here in a sense. Still not quite the same as being in the country though.
It's definitely not over yet so--quitters never win and winners never quit and I don't think the Sens are quitters.

Congratulations to a very proud group of hockey players, journey men, some of whom have paid their dues with so many other clubs, in so many other playoffs, and so deserve this, the Niedermayer brothers, Chris Pronger, Teemu Selanne, et.al; and to the fans in Anaheim , where the critics of the game said it would never last, who have steadfastly for the last fourteen years had the courage to support a team called the "Mighty Ducks!" Thankfully the name that will be carved on Lord Stanley's Cup, though, will simply be the Anaheim Ducks. (They dropped the "Mighty" back in June!)

You guys are way too nice. I am SO not ready to congratulate Anaheim--what are you doing? The final period was PAINFUL to watch, I can think of no better word. They were working so hard and it was such a forgone conclusion! I don't care how many Canadians are on that team (or all of them--we are the foremost hockey nation!), if the Cup isn't in Canada, I am not happy. I wonder if it will ever come back again, truthfully. Let's face it, the odds are against us. 6 Canadian teams and 24 American teams, it seems unlikely. WE NEED MORE TEAMS!

Oh, Innie, I would love to see more teams in Canada and take our game back! The unfortunate thing is that so many Canadian cities are still considered small market and unable to support an NHL team.
Last night's game was difficult to watch - but I don't believe the Ottawa Senators gave that everything they had to give - other than Daniel Alfredsson, it was a very lackluster performance. It certainly wasn't the team that showed up for Game Three.
However, even with that effort, I still believe the Ottawa Senators are a much better hockey team, with more depth in the talent pool. For some strange reason, the Ducks seemed to have their number and were more than capable of meeting that challenge. But, look out, NHL, Ottawa will be back again and they will be hungry.
Are we nice? Not necessarily - I would like to think that perhaps we are just gracious losers.

Canada won gold in the world junior hockey championships on the weekend--for the FOURTH (count 'em! 4!) year in a row. I don't know why the world keeps having this tournament, it's such a foregone conclusion now.

So, didn't have time until now but I had to rave about Sunday's game. What a turnaround! In the first 3 minutes, the "other" team scored 3 goals. Not looking good. In fact, most of us gave up! How could one bounce back from that? Pretty demoralizing. So, believe it or not they did. The other team didn't score any more goals, and we won 4-3! Yay! Tonight's another game. Go Flames go!

How's this for a couple of examples of a hockey obsessed city:
1) Our workplace is allowing us to wear Flames wear on games days in the playoffs (as long as no external meetings etc.)
2) I was at the theatre on Saturday night, the most expensive/classiest one (yay rush tickets!). In intermission, they announced the score over the intercom because they knew we would all want to know. Plus, the guy sitting beside me once we sat down was trying to get a signal on his Blackberry in order find out more about how the game was progressing.
I've got my car flag out! Go Flames!

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins who took game seven from Detroit tonight. My team never made the playoffs so I wasn't super excited for either team but I'm glad the Penguins won. They lost to the Wings last year and were the underdogs. I'm a sucker for the underdogs so I was a bit more partial to them.
Way to go Penguins!

Yay for the Penguins! Sidney Crosby (from the Great White North, where else ) becomes the youngest team Captain to ever hoist the Stanley Cup.
