Unfortunately we came away from this weekend's tournament with a 1-1-1 record - our defense seemed to break down in the sweltering, humid 96 degree heat out on the field today and we lost 2 - 1. But, this is their first time playing the full-size soccer field so I think we actually - although the boys would disagree - had quite a respectable showing and should be proud of what we accomplished. I know I am! That's great. Going from mini soccer to full sized soccer is a big adjustment. Ok. Commercial's over. Back to Hockey Night in Canada/North Carolina!

The slush dessert sure was tasty on such a hot day. Inuvik, hope you stayed home and Lori, hope you stayed awake. Oh yes, you bet I stayed home and watched the game! What a great game. One of the things I like is hearing everyone on other patios and units cheering whenever "we" scored. It's a really neat sense of community. I have to miss tonight's game as there is a meeting at my house. We are watching a DVD. But, I discovered over the weekend--I can still record on VHS while watching a DVD. So, at least I can record the game and see the exciting bits later. Still, I can't believe it. Missing game 7 of the Stanley Cup final. This sucks, bites, blows, etc etc. Plus, it will be very difficult to concentrate on what we are there for!

Don't watch the news before you watch the game and then it will be like you never missed it!

Edmonton fought a good fight, but fell just short. The best team won tonight, but not because Edmonton didn't try . So in the spirit of good sportsmanship: CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2006 STANLEY CUP CHAMPS--THE CAROLINA HURRICANES! Thanks for the ride guys. It was fun and memorable.

I recorded the game and will watch the highlights (lowlights? ) tonight. Reminds me so much of two years ago, when the Flames were ranked 8th in the Western Conference and made it all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. But, that was worse for me! Thanks for the great ride Oilers!

It's back! Yayy! Hockey is the only good thing about winter for me. (And fall--because winter is coming).
The Leafs won tonight against Ottawa 3-1 for a record of one win-one loss. Can't wait to rub it in tomorrow at work. The lady I teach with is an Ottawa fan. If you're an Ottawa fan, you're not a Leafs fan and vise versa. All in good fun. I'm sure there will be a time when she will do the same.

Hi guys,
This is related to hockey so I thought I'd put it here.
Oct 15, 2006--Friends of mine lost everything in a house fire. They're house is gone and so is most of their belongings. They managed to salvage a few things, but not much. They have to rebuild and are renting a house for now. The reason I'm putting this here is that their 12-year-old son had a huge hockey card collection, along with autographs, pucks etc. His absolute favourite player is Dominik Haseck (sp?) Does anyone have any connections to him? Or any hockey player for that matter? He had Haseck's autograph, but I know he'd go crazy over anyone's. I'm not sure what other one's he had, but I thought I might try and get him something but I"m not sure what to do
If anyone can help, I'd be grateful.
PS. They lost both their cats and all their stuff, but the family got out safely. 7 people--5 kids

It certainly can't hurt. Will you PM me?

Sorry I missed this earlier BJO. But I don't have a single hockey card or any connections with any players! I hope that Longlashes' letter will be able to help their son.

From nhl.com: WEB TIME: Now you can Google the goalie. The NHL and the popular search engine company joined forces this week, agreeing to a multiyear deal that will provide hockey footage to Google Video. Viewers will be able to see full games from the current season, as well as some classic NHL contests. The NHL will offer the video at no charge and commercial free for the first two weeks of November. "When Web users are searching for diverse video content, Google Video is the first place they go, just as NHL.com is the first place hockey fans go when they want NHL video," said Keith Ritter, president of NHL Interactive Cyber Enterprises. "The combination of our content and Google's massive reach is a terrific pairing, and we're excited to add fan-generated content to the mix." The league also will join with Google to allow some NHL-themed content to be seen at Google's video site, video.google.com/nhl.html. It is the first time Google Video has worked with a major professional sports league in this way. "We are excited to work with the NHL," Google said in a statement. "We are helping the NHL share this terrific content with all Google Video users. "We are also hoping to make this content ad-supported, enabling the NHL to earn revenue from online distribution of this content." ---

That's really cool. Wonder how much it will cost after the first two weeks?
The link didn't work for me. Maybe it's just down. I'll try again in a bit.
