I don't know if I have five right off the bat, but I thought it would be fun to have a place for us to post links of websites we like so we have an easy place to go and access them later.
Here's one my brother sent me recently:
www.zillow.com/
Type in almost any address and it will give you the value of the home and lots of other cool info. I found out how much my friend's mom sold her house for a few years ago and how it has since tripled in value. Ouch. But very interesting!
Also, someone here at work sent me this the other day:
nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/GiantPandas/
If you scroll down, you can see the panda cam and watch the baby panda and it's mother playing at any given moment. I don't know why, but I find it strangely soothing and it makes me happy.
And here's an old favorite:
worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
But I guess you'd have to be really into genealogy to get the fascination. I've found all sorts of interesting things at this website.
And I like this online dictionary:
www.thefreedictionary.com/Gallaudet
I like that you can get the proper pronunciations here. I have it on the Gallaudet page because everyone here says that word incorrectly. I have always pronounced it gal-a-det and some people say it goll-a-det, which is okay. Everyone here in DC--from the people announcing the Gallaudet metro stop to people you meet at work--say gal-yoo-det and it drives me crazy. I looked it up at this dictionary and found that I AM RIGHT. There. All better now.
And I guess I can find one more website, just to make it five. Mmmmm.....Here it is!
www.exploratorium.edu/seeing/notfadeaway/index.html
This is the website of a guy who lost his sight to RP and I found it very interesting. He's a great writer and I like the way everything over there is presented--including something that shows what things look like to him. His personal stories are very thought provoking.
