First of all, thanks to shmeep for the zillow.com site--although it's just as scary as it useful! That is, it's scary that amount of consolidated information is there in one place for free, complete with aerial views. The website I go to constantly throughout the day for my news/information fix is www.washingtonpost.com. It seems to me to be one of the most user-friendly, information-packed newspaper sites out there (yes, especially for those of us in the Metro DC area, but a lot of the coverage is national in scope). It also includes a full slate of weekly online chats that cover everything from TV to advice to real estate to politics. I find the Carolyn Hax chat to be more of a weekly appointment for me than any television program currently airing! Washington Post just bought www.slate.com, which is also a great place for some interesting reading. My current favorite shopping site is www.zappos.com. They sell discounted shoes--any pair you want is here--and their return policy is awesome. They include a return label with every shipment, so if they don't fit, you just slap them back in the box and send them on their way for free and a full refund. For anybody who likes to travel, www.travelzoo.com has some great bargains. And for those of you who like to cook and/or entertain, I love www.foodnetwork.com.

If you are interested in the stars etc. check out apod or astronomy picture of the day. Great shots from the Hubble! Also, cassini puts you in touch with the NASA site for the Cassini mission around Saturn.

If memory serves me correctly, IMBD.com brought us together, or least most of us, in the first place. So, of course, it is one of my favorites.
That would have been March of last year.
I have now posted what is equal to a leap year.

www.crimelibrary.com/For those who like crime. Did that come out right? (Serial Killers on this board may find this site as a source for some ideas) Later, Carl Oh! I think that is the website I found that had very good information on Ed Gein. It was a fascinating look at so many different serial killers. I found it when one of my manga artists use Gein as a model for one of his villains, but I didn't know who Gein was. Thanks for reminding me, Carl, you're right, that is a very good website. That was the site that got me curious enough to go through our section of the library on psychopathology and fear (and phobias). --GB

That was quite amusing, especially if you change the voice to male and the woman is still the picture talking!

www.yuni.com/library/latinJust found this, as I'm reading Thurber's My Life and Hard Times per Mags. I never took Latin, but it looks like most of the phrases are correct, and then they'll stick in a real gem. Everything from Ovid and Horace, from the philosophical, to the absurd. Cave ab homine unius libri--Beware of anyone who has just one book Balaenae nobis conservandae sunt!--save the whales! Bovina Sancta!--Holy cow! Mater tua criceta fuit, et pater tuo redoluit bacarum sambucus--Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries. It's even better for me, as they stuck in: Appareeo Decet Nihil Munditia?--Is It Not Nifty? Which happens to be one of my favorite comic books by Pete Abrams. They've even translated a few quotes in there from the comic, so the humor here is right up my alley! ;D For you trekkies out there: Me transmitte sursum, caledoni!--Beam me up, Scotty! I think I'm going to learn to speak Latin now. Mei capilli sunt flagrantes--my hair is on fire Mihi ignosce. Cum homine de cane debeo congredi--Excuse me, I've got to see a man about a dog. (Does anyone know what this is from?) Medacem memorem esse oportet--a liar needs a good memory Nec laudas nisi mortuos poetas: tanti non est, ut placeam, perire--If only dead poets are praised, I'd rather go unsung Noli simul flare sobereque--don't whistle and drink at the same time Nolite id cogere, cape malleum majorem--don't force it, get a bigger hammer Non vereor ne illam me amare hic potuerit resciscerre; quippe haud etiam quicquam inepte feci--I don't think anyone knows I love the girl; I haven't done anything really silly yet Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?--How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Radicitus, comes!--Really rad, dude Raptus regaliter--royally screwed Re vera, cara mea, mea nil refert--Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn Re vera, potas bene--Say, you sure are drinking a lot Suntne vacci laeti?--Are your cows happy? Te precor dulcissime supplex!--Pretty please with a cherry on top! Tua toga suspina est--your toga is backwards Tuis pugis pignore!--you bet your bippy! Latro! fremo!--woof woof! grrr! Luke sum ipse patrem te--Luke, I am your father. Frunulum pani nolo--I don't want a toaster Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur--Anything said in Latin sounds profound. Latine loqui coactus sum--I have this compulsion to speak Latin I better stop! There's about two thousand of these things. --GB

I took two years of Latin, and actually remember sum (Ha!) of it. Some of these look pretty good, but others are really forced and not good translations. For instance, "Luke, I am your father" should be (I think): Luke, sum tuum patrem. Don't know where they get ipse or te . If you really wanted to emphasize I am your father: Luke, ego sum tuum patrem. Sorta like Spanish: soy or yo soy -- your call. I know, I know ..... TMI. Tempus fugit!!
