I saw a story on the news a few minutes ago about a deer rescue. Seems it was out on the ice of a river and couldn't get up. People were stopping to see if they could do anything, but were afraid that a rope would make her crazy. A news helicopter using the wind from his rotary blades, blew the deer to shore where she got up, and ran away. EGW

I was really glad that they were able to save her and that she wasn't hurt by the ordeal. It was almost as if she sensed that the helicopter was helping and not hurting her. I also saw that more nasty weather seems to be heading your way so take care!

Winter has certainly arrived here. Last Sunday we had 3 inches of snow which proceeded to melt just enough and then was topped by some freezing drizzle. We have had snow flurries off and on and the temperature has taken a nose dive. From the 40-50's we now may top at 25-30 with a wind chill of whatever. I don't mind the cold and the snow but having to contend with the ice every morning is not fun. I refuse to walk the dog in that, not because of ice but because she refuses to behave when it is necessary. We go out in the backyard and she can run and play with her buddy and I fill all the birdfeeders (I added another one this season so now I have nine). They are talking freezing rain this weekend. I hope not!!! I have also heard that this Artic blast is going to make life miserable especially in the northeast.

Winter has decided to come here too. We still have very little snow, but the temperature is now freezing. (-17C with a windchill of whatever). That's about -2F. My face and hands froze today walking from the school to the car. I couldn't feel either one.

I woke up to a whopping 12 degrees!!!!! I hear, though, it's supposed to cool off this weekend, so that should be nice - *snicker!* So me and my coffee bolted from the V train, up 55th Street, cross Park and straight into the building. I think my hair froze.

Winter has bared its fangs this week. The high today was around 12 degrees with winds right out of west and snow flurries. Luckily there has been no new ice. I go out and let the car idle for a few minutes while I have the doggies out for their run in the yard and fill bird feeders. For the first time, my fingers were absolutely frozen--with two pairs of gloves on. To top it off, I have a cold with a nagging cough.

There is a story on the History Channel called: How the East was Won. It's about how the Soviet Union settled and built cities in Siberia.
Temperatures reach 50 degrees below zero (celsius: minus 20-25), (actual) not windchill, with regularity.
Now that's cold!.
Later, Carl

I'm not in Siberia but it might start to feel like it over the next few days. Temeratures are going to reach -22F with the windchill. When I tell Natascha how cold it is here, she says "Why do you live there???" I might wonder that myself until the warm weather shows up again. This is wayyyyy too cold.

'Cause Canada rocks, that's why you live here! ;D Unfortunately most of Canada also gets winter, and a bad one at that. Let's all move to Victoria! (BC, not Australia ). Although even Victoria and the lower mainland have had lots of storms and a bit of winter this year.

I. Do. Not. Like. Winter. There, I said it. It is cold and miserable outside. My boys are losing their minds staying in the house and my husband has the worst case of Cabin Fever on record. Not only do I have to get my kids dressed for school, get their lunches and backpacks packed, get shoes and socks for them - I have to find gloves, boots, hats, coats and snow pants! I miss California so, so, so, so much! I want to go back, I do, I do, I do. This is where I belong: I will spend next winter there - it is now my personal mission! BTW Hoosier, the lady with the ice crisis could very well have been me!!

OK, I get to have my evil laugh today--this doesn't usually happen so I'm going to make the most of it! The national news weatherman said that most of Canada is in the -20 C (-4 F) temperature range, and that with windchill it will feel like -40 (same in C and F, darn cold!) Except for us. Our high today is forecast to be 10 C (50 F)! BWAH HAHA HA HA HA HA!!!! (Sorry Mouse. I DO sympathize with longing to be back in California! But tomorrow we are supposed to join the rest of the country , so I only have one day to exalt!!)
