We have our first snow day. We got about three inches last night and the snow is still falling. No school! The boys have already been out playing in the drifts. Until today, I have never experienced a snow day in all my life. Chalk one up for Nebraska. Snow days are magical, when your a kid. My sister is off today too, I think this is her 6th snowday this year.

Great pictures, Eyphur! And I love the pets looking on. Karma!
And guess what? The Federal Government is closing in fifteen minutes and I get to go home early! Yeah! That almost never happens.

Even back in Oct when it was -40 for several days. And for over a week it's been snowing almost 24/7, but things continue and don't shut down. (it's not as much snow as upstate NY though--wow! ) Guess we are a hardy bunch up here.

We have a winter storm warning in effect for tonight. It's just started snowing and blowing and is it ever cold! Of course I hate it, but if it has to come we better get a snow day out of it. Could get dumped on pretty good..or not. You never know.

Some of us who are newly arrived to the Metro feel like it is upstate NY! Have I mentioned how much I hate snow? Have I mentioned how much I want to go back to California? I feel your pain Mouse, as I sit here warming my hands in front of the fire, after yet another run to the woodpile. My neck is being kept quite warm however by my burberry scarf from ebay. I do know how much you want to get back to sunny California, especially after seeing that nice beach pic you posted. Hope it is not long before you are back there walking on that beach. And I have this as my screensaver right now reminding me that it won't be all that long...........but today it seems a long way off. I suggest you print out your beach pic and hang it all over the house. How can that be resisted?

So guess what? DC is buried in ice and really hard snow. The roads are crazy. The Metro is even worse. The government shut down early yesterday for the same reasons but...they're open today! That's right. The federal government is open but on a 2-hour delay. I left home at 7:30 as usual and I didn't get to work until 9:10. It's usually a 30-minute commute. I spent most of that time stuck on the Red Line because there was a power outage further up the tracks so all the trains were stuck holding at each station along the line. Very annoying commute. So I finally got to work only to find that my appointments for the day are canceled. Stupid government. My husband almost got stuck in snushy snow twice after dropping me off at the metro and that is only three miles away so imagine what everyone else is having to go through to get to work. Did I happen to express the concept of "stupid government"? I believe I did, but it can never be said too much today. Why can't I get just ONE snow day?

I can't believe it. My company actually closed the offices for the day ! They just didn't want anyone out on the roads. In our area, about 35 miles west of DC, we got the works - snow, sleet and a nice, hefty layer of freezing rain on top. I have never worked for a company that seemed to care as much as this one does.

That is great Lori! My office is a department of a hospital, and although we do not participate directly in patient care nor are we even located in the hospital; we never close. However, the bosses are pretty good about letting us take a personal day for days such as this. I am told only 5 of the staff of 30 are there and they all live within a mile or two of the office. Our weather...Snow yesterday evening following by heavy sleet all night and now still sleet, but very light. Wind chill of 7 and colder weather to come. Still, we have been very lucky here in Eastern PA this winter compared to other parts of the country.

I'm not sure how much snow we got, but it's very icy, cold, and windy, so we are all home. No school today! We're supposed to get more.
