I'm at work. That's all I have to say. Like I said, we never get snow days either.

Quite frankly, for those of us from the Great White North, weather conditions today are hardly cause for a day off - but if the Company closes down, well.....now, if we were in Parish, New York, a snow day would be absolutely justified! Twelve feet of snow in two weeks - haven't seen anything like that since I was a kid!!

More Pictures We had freezing rain yesterday afternoon and evening so everything has an ice coating on it. I tried to get a few pictures of it. This is looking out my bedroom window. Looking out the bay window. This is the window I took pictures of the front yard through yesterday. The ice froze onto the glass. I took these while parking my dog. My car. The steps out the side door.

We had about 7 inches of snow along with 3 inches of sleet out of the storm the other day. All county roads were closed except for emergency traffic and some counties would ticket you if you were out for no good reason. The town was basically shut down Tuesday and the schools have been closed since then.
I was finally able to get the car out of the driveway today. We had to shovel out or we couldn't make it to the street. It hasn't been too bad walking but with mutiple layers of snow and sleet you can be going along and then, all of a sudden, you sink up to your knees. A little harrowing to say the least! When the dog has problems then its bad. I try to stay to the places where I have already been because at least I know its packed.
They are saying we could get 3 more inches on Saturday. We will see!

We had a blizzard, YAAAYY!!!!! It's not as bad as I believe yours are, but we call it a blizzard whenever we get more than 5 inches of snow and we did this night. Of course the roads are closed and people can't get to work but really it's not that big a deal. Tomorrow we will be back to business and the forecast predicts more snow tonight but it will be all gone by the weekend. We never get snowdays, if you can't get to work, it's just too bad, you won't get payed for that day, so you have to work overtime some other day or take a holiday. Luckily I have a holiday this week so it's not going to cost me anything, I can just stay inside and enjoy ;D Anyway, I love snow and we barely had any this winter so I am enjoying it. I took this picture today because the of the tree being all bent by the snow Take care and keep smiling - Chris

We have in Hungary a folk custom, which's name I don't even find in my dictionary. I don't know whether this is exist in some other country? It is some kind of carnival, for the shake of winter-chasing. It's hungarian name is Farsang, and it is in February, when the winter is closer and closer to his end, and everybody is waiting the spring . Everybody is dressed in fancy dresses, and with big noise (yelling, musical insrtuments) they are trying to chase the winter. After that a puppet (the Kisze-puppet) is burned symbolically as winter. Our kindergarten (for blind children, the place where I work) the Farsang was today. A lot of fairy and witch and bear and butterfly was yelling and singing while the kisze puppet was burned. The children were very happy, a lot of them could see the flames, and fire crackled nicely. Unfortunatily it had a very big smoke (I think we won't spoil). So I think it has to be succesful. And because it has been spring already here (during the all winter actually) I hope the effect of this winter-chasing will go to you... Janna

Nice tradition, Janna, chasing the Winter out of town I, for one, haven't heard about it before, so maybe it is in Hungary only but on the other hand, we have a similar tradition, not chasing winter but begging for a good summer. Our tradition is in February too, where children dress up in costumes and then they have to knock down a barrel filled with candy using a wooden club. A couple of hundred years ago there would be a black cat (alive!) inside the barrel when they were hitting the barrel, very cruel!! If the cat survived it would be chased out of town or killed.. Whoever knocks down the barrel becomes king for the day and gets a crown. Kids used to go from door to door, singing a certain song, begging for rolls or money similar to the American "Trick or Treating" They don't do it as often anymore because it was done during the day, and most people are at work now so nobody's at home... Originally this was a fertility ritual making sure that the next summer would ensure large crops, but now it's just for fun. - Chris

How cool that you have these customs. The closest I think we get is Groundhog's Day. Glad you finally got some snow, Chris I took some photos of our two big snowfalls but none of our trees were bending over. I like winter too--I am not a hot weather person by any means!--but right now our snow is dirty and is melting and flooding the sidewalks and every night it refreezes so it is very slick the next morning. Going out in the backyard this morning was an adventure. I was hanging onto the bushes and the clothesline trying not to slip and fall! This weekend they say we could have 2 inches of rain!!! If true that will definitely be one sloppy mess

Ugh. What a yuck afternoon. They had forecast freezing rain and/or sleet mainly for the northern part of the state and the last I heard that was what they were still saying and it wasn't supposed to come in until 7 PM. Well, quess what? It seems my town slid northward sometime this week on all the ice we have and right now it is raining and sleeting plus some freezing rain and the occasional snowflake The last time I poked my head out, it wasn't horribly slick but talk about one royal mess. If the temperature drops tonight I don't think I will step foot outside!

Shmeep!! As I type this I have MSNBC on in the background. They have mentioned several times how awful the weather is in DC. How are you and Mr. Shmeep hanging in?
We have four inches of new snow on the ground here - just when it had all melted! UGH. I. Miss. California.

I am not Shmeep, nor can I speak for weather in her area, but here, about 35 miles away, this is what it is doing: Toward the District, they are supposed to get more sleet and freezing rain but here in the boonies of Ashburn it is snowing - hard! What you see in this picture is the result of 1 hour of accumulation. Not quite a blizzard but it's really coming down! Of course, someone I know is praying it continues so this also turns into a three day weekend!

It's snowing like mad here! Just like the picture Longlashes posted. It's so beautiful. I love this weather. I have a feeling this may be the tail end of winter for us. It will warm up considerably during the week. Each season is the most beautiful as it comes here in Maryland.
