This is a picture I took when I was visiting in RI in August. As the days are cooling off a bit, I am now using this as the background on my work computer. It lets me take a mini vacation every time I look at it!

September 11, 2001 The Lower Manhattan Skyline as it now is... Let us not forget the Lower Manhattan Skyline as it was... And the lives who were lost seven years ago in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. May the victims rest in peace and their loved ones find comfort.

Kathy, thank you for those pictures- the one you took, next to the one before Sept 11, 01...quite a reminder of that tragic day......It certainly was on my mind all day today and my heart was heavy as I saw flags at half mast. I still remember so clearly the disbelief and the sadness of that day and all the days that followed. It is so hard to believe it has been 7 years. Our Pledge to the Flag in class this morning took on such a different feel and as I looked into the faces of my little students I said a little prayer that they would never have to witness something like that. I was in that exact same spot seven years ago when someone came to my classroom door to tell me what had happened. My son is an airline pilot and flies out of Laquardia in NY and the person who told me asked me first if he was flying that day. Luckily I had spoken to him just an hour before and knew that he was not flying or I would have been frantic. Let us never forget.

Thanks for the pics. I've thought of this all day. I know exactly what I was doing when I found out and will never forget the emotions of two years ago when I had a chance to visit Ground Zero. In fact, I watched the slide show I made at the time and that visit and those pictures made it all the more real for me. The one picture I have that always gets me is of a man almost kneeling down either praying or meditating or something. He obviously lost someone or was very affected by the whole thing as am I whenever I see that. It's just a reminder of how many people were affected by the whole thing. May we all never forget.

Thank you so much for posting it Kathy.
I really believe that we do need to remember this day forever and remember the ordinary people who went to work as they did every day, only for this to happen because of the terrible state of the world.
I was there in April too BJO for the second time since 00 and despite the changes, still feels so sad.
And while you're at it my friends, don't forget Bali.

Pardon my ignorance, but who or what is Bali? The site of a terrorist attack in 2002. More than 200 people were killed, many of whom were Australians. More details here.

This past weekend I was in Rhode Island visiting my son and his family. I took a walk with my granddaughters and on the way snapped this picture of a little marina nearby. So, here is Fall in Rhode Island.

This past weekend I was in Rhode Island visiting my son and his family. I took a walk with my granddaughters and on the way snapped this picture of a little marina nearby. So, here is Fall in Rhode Island. Oh Kathy, what poor planning on our parts! You blew into RI as I blew out last weekend. So unfortunately we couldn't meet at the "little coffee shop on Elizabeth," or anywhere else. Thanks for another great picture though. Karma for that. I headed to NYC with a bunch of retired school teachers. They are not nearly as much fun as the people from the board. And I had to try to keep that grin off my face as we passed Hester and Bowery, Pitt and Broome, Elizabeth, and Franklin. ("Canal's what, five blocks...no three.") I even counted to make sure Tom was right. Having seen Kathy's travelogue pics of her visit to Ground Zero that she posted on the board, I did talk the group into going to St. Paul's Church, and a choral group from St. Dunstan's College in England was there performing so it made the experience very moving. The church is almost as it was during the rescue efforts- filled with signs, and pictures, and memorabilia. (Borrowing Kathy's pic from her travelogue here.) Since I first visited St. Paul’s two years ago, they have removed the pews to make their worship space more flexible. Two pews remain, however, as a memorial to the rescuers who slept on them after the attack. The scrape marks in the paint are from the equipment of the rescuers. We also took a walk past the NYSE (GULP), to the new Sports Museum of America, down on Broadway. Very interesting.

You always hear about fall in New England and it looks gorgeous. Karma for your photos that make you feel that you're there! Rducasey, oh the thoughts flitting through your mind. I've done that on occasion because some times you get stuck in a meeting or whatever and it is just so boring. I do try to keep one ear open on the off chance they ask me a question! The trip to the church sounds wonderful. How lucky to be there on a day when they had a quest choir.

"Bad Dog" Yep, that's my Rosie! Everyday there is a different ornament on the floor. Well tonight we caught her using the couch to reach up even higher! The angel on the top seems to be trying to make a getaway.
