that here in America's "Hea(r)tland", the asphalt melted and splashed onto our car. Now we have a black, gooey mess on the side of the car.

What on earth are you talking about Carl? As I type this I am sitting in my sister's basement in beautiful Omaha, Nebraska. We just spent a lovely day at Freemont lake. There was a great breeze and very little humidity.
Ok, it is hotter than blazes here, you're right. But it was nice at the lake, and we spent all day yesterday at a water park. Tomorrow we are going gambling!

Carl, are you sure it isn't alien spit?
Here is is so cold, DH decided to ride his bike to work yesterday after getting up and finding an inch of ice all over the car.
Silly boy then arrived home with frozen fingers.
OK, the sun is out, it does look glorious, the birds have not frozen, I can hear them singing but it is cold. Fist day of minus degrees overnight.

Natascha from WInterland of the future Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Thanks, Natasha, for reporting on your chilly temperatures - just reading it makes me feel cooler already! All I can say is thank heavens summer is relatively short - couldn't deal with this kind of heat all year long.

My matchbox of a house has no insulation making it hotter inside than out in summer and an icecube inside in winter. I can see my breath inside allll day long. I have an electric heater that I won't use after receiving a very painful electricity bill. All my windows and my mirror are fogged and condensed, but even worse, condensation drips down the walls of my house. The walls! Every morning my glasses are also all fogged up and damp. Nyaaaah. However, I prefer Winter to Summer

I love hot hot hot. The hotter the better. I am the poster child for those who think Canada is cold all year round. I wear jackets and sweatshirts when it's 80 degrees outside because I'm cold. We've been having some days in the high 90's and over 100 with the humidex. I'm in my glory while everyone else is sweating.
In the winter I wear 4 or five layers of clothes and my winter coat all day--in the house too. Half the time I'm still cold! I hate winter.

I hate the heat too. I much prefer colder temperatures, because then you can put more clothes on. In the summer, there's nothing you can do except be hot. I don't feel like eating (but that's a good thing! ), sometimes I feel nauseous, and it's hard to sleep. I'm someone who likes to pull blankets up to my chin and really snuggle down. In the summer, even if it's not blisteringly hot, just a sheet doesn't do it for me for comfort. I've often thought what I really need is a new invention--a blanket with lots of weight but that has no heat. I live in an apartment, so no cross breeze or basement. Also, it's a brick building, so even well into fall it stays hot--takes forever for the heat to dissipate.

In the winter I wear 4 or five layers of clothes and my winter coat all day--in the house too. Half the time I'm still cold! I hate winter. Hey, bjobsessed, I'm always cold, too! (Hence the reason I was wearing a scarf, a sweater, and a coat during the conference and still freezing my cahonas off--cahoonas? when it was 95 degrees outside.) I adore warm weather, and I drive everyone around me crazy. Sadly, we've learned to gauge severe weather by me--if it's cloudy and I skip into work singing, "Oh what a beautiful day," inevitably we have a severe thunderstorm with possible hail (you'd love my typo, I originally had possible hair, let the national weather service deal with that one!) and possible tornadoes. When GB says: "It's gorgeous out," you learn to run for your life. I keep my theromostat at 82 right now, if I have the A/C on at all. I will admit, I turned it on of my own accord last week. I'm happy with 75-95 degrees, but I sadly forfeit the open windows above 95, or if the humidity is above 70%. Once the heat index gets above 100, that's when one must give in and eat ice cream for dinner. But, despite our recent rash of heat, I have yet to turn the A/C on in my car, so I don't know if it works or not. But thanks to last week and my incredible melting mirror, and the wisdom of my grandfather, I curbed my instinct to park facing west this morning. Wahoo! She can be taught, ladies and gentleman. --GB

Natascha from WInterland of the future What a breath of fresh air! I can tolerate the cold much better than the heat. You can always put on an extra layer if you are cold but there is a limit in how much you can take off and still be decent Today is nice--in the low 80's, after a week of 90+++ , heat indices of at least 100+ and humidty that I swear was 200% We had a thunder storm last night that heralded the cold front that was moving in--if 70+ can be considered cold!. It is expected to last until Wednesday and then back to the sweat factory We have sooo much to do outside but I tried last Sunday evening to check for the dreaded tomato worm but being in the sun for more than 5 minutes at a time was horrible! I have very fair skin (no red hair, but red highlights) and hardly tan so I am careful of exposure to the sun. I have lived here my entire life and I still gripe about the heat and humidity. If it were up to me, it wouldn't get above 70, maybe 75 tops in the summer. I know, I know, I am a killjoy!

Even San Diego hasn't been spared in the current heat wave. I live near the coast, about a half mile from the beach, and it rarely gets extremely hot here. Well, today is the exception. It's 93 here at the moment. I really feel for the poor horses at Del Mar, who have to race in this heat. At least I don't live inland. It's 107 in Escondido and 108 in El Cajon. They say we're on track to have the hottest July ever. Jeez, if I liked weather like this, I could have stayed on the East Coast!

Yes. I've always said, "I'd rather be cold than hot." And at least when it's cold, the humidity's down. Big hair? You want big hair? I look like Cousin Itt. AAAARGH!!!

Well, I'm interviewing and I've had to ride the subway in this heat - I can't even describe to you the heat index in the subway - you can't even breathe!!! Nevermind the walking I had to do, too. I think I lost 10 pounds, I'm not sure - what do you do when you're not sure?

It was hot here earlier in the week--triple digits!--but then we had a few fabulous thunder storms and today it's just in the eighties. I'm with all the people here who prefer the cold. I don't like my that my office is far too air conditioned because I do get chilly easily, but I detest really warm weather. Today it's about 110 in The San Fernando Valley, where I grew up and where most of my family lives, and it's about 120 in Phoenix, where my in-laws live. Mr. Shmeep and I look at those temps and laugh! My family thinks we are to be pitied in the winter, but that's because people from Los Angeles can't fathom the fact that some people choose to live where it snows. Even more shocking to them is the fact that some people even like the snow. We love the snow. The novelty has not yet worn off.
