This may sound odd, but here goes. I was putting coins in the slots in the cup holders in my car (Honda Odyssey of course - what else could I drive?) and I felt what felt like Braille numbers for which coin should go in which slot. It is amazing to me that some engineer thought to do that!

What is wrong with this picture, class? Okay, I'm kidding, and bravo! to the Honda engineers. The drive-up cash machine at my bank -- which you are not meant to walk up to -- includes Braille. I know, I know, it's because they just installed a standard machine, which of course includes Braille, but it does make me giggle a little . . . .

The cup holder is on the dash board between the driver's and passenger seats. It is equally accessible to driver and passenger.

I tried it, but usually only got one letter--sometimes more if I was a little off. But, silly me, I probably have to install one of the braille programs they list before I can see if it really works. Or, since I got one letter most of the time, does that mean it would work? As long as you can consistently get the letter you're typing, you're good to go. But if you press four keys for, say, the letter "p" and consistently get "l" and - what is that, dot 4? - rather than "p", then your keyboard isn't cooperating well enough to handle the lessons. The extra software is for downloading to your pc and practicing offline, I believe. That help? Kyt

I have a couple pieces of this jewelry and really like them. I have the serenity/harmony earrings and the live/love/laugh dangle pendant. I get compliments every time I wear them. Cool stuff.

Braille; driver's seat; hmmm.
and the speedometer is JAWS compatible. Would not want to be caught speeding.
I had to say it.

and yes, Lucy will probably get one of the items of jewelry (Thanks Marsie for the heads-up) for her birthday.
I'll let her pick out what she want.

Okay, Carl, I need to know -- is this the stupidest bank machine you ever heard of? I go to my ATM yesterday and there is a new machine in place. Everything is beautifully labeled in Braille: the envelope slot, the card slot, etc. But the number pad on which all transactions are based? No Braille. LARGE numbers. No Braille. Just big numbers, not even raised, and you'd have to be the kind of safecracker who sandpapered their fingers to get a "read" off this thing. I took off my gloves and tried. No soap. This is technology? Don't think so! And you stay out of the driver's seat, you maniac! Maggie

My favorite misplaced braille lately has to be at the new carwash in town. When you drive up to pay at the autocashier, there is a nicely labeled braille plate that says "If you require assistance, please push this button for attendant." Just who the heck is driving? Matt Murdock?
