I drove to work today because I had an appointment and needed my car. I generally listen to 3 radio stations (because I have 3 presets) and jump around between them. Anyway, today I heard the same story at different times on all 3 stations! (I have a long commute) Apparently, Blender magazine just named the worst song ever, and it is Starship's "We Built This City". Someone is going to try to get into the Guiness Book of World Records by listening to it for 24 hours straight in a glass booth. I love this song! It has a great beat and is very catchy. Can it really be the worst song ever? I can think of plenty that are more appropriate for that "honor". The video isn't that great, but I wouldn't even say it was the worst video ever! I heard the song twice this morning in the car too--a pleasure!

In my book it is a toss up between Another Bites the Dustby Queen, and Tub Thumping by some British one-hit-wonder band. To my ear those are about the most annoying songs ever written.
We Built this City didn't even enter my mind. I don't think it is bad enough to be the worst ever, it is just kind of there. Although I'm sure Grace Slick is thrilled to know it is at the top of the list. Honestly though, I'm sure there must be less painful ways to make it into the Guiness Book!

I'm sorry, but "Christmas Shoes" is by far the worst I've ever heard. Sorry if I'm offending anyone out there that may like it, but talk about your throw-myself-off-a-building songs!

I just thought of another horrible song "Alone Again (Naturally)" by Gilbert O'Sullivan.

So many horrible songs, I find it easier to do it by genre or category. Rap and hip hop spring to mind immediately. I also don't like duets, but just IMO--I know many people do.

Okay.
"Muskrat Love" by the Captain and Tenielle.
I mean, what's up with the rat-sounds in the background?

UCK!
Does anyone remember the one-hit-wonder, "Mmm-Bop" by the Hanson Brothers?
Just plain dumb!

More!
"You Light Up My Life" and "You're Havin' My Baby".
"MacArthur Park" - it's melting? All the sweet green icing flowing down? Who left the cake out in the rain? What DOES this have to do with a cake?

I think the worst song ever is: Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
I hate that song. I allways change the statiion when it comes on.
The group that recorded Tub Thumping is Chumbawamba. I once saw a band play Tubthumping immediately after doing a scatter (Chinese Fire) Drill in which a Tuba player had fallen in trying to reach he spot in time. I thought it was quite appropriate.

How about "Itsy-bitsy, Teeny-weeny, Yellow Polka-dot Bikini"? I vaguely recall a movie in which the villain tortured someone by playing this song over and over and over.

I also don't like duets, but just IMO--I know many people do. So very many duets spring to mind, where to even start. Here is my short list of the worst duets ever recorded: "Stop Dragging my Heart Around" Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks "You Don't Bring me Flowers" Neil Diamond and (I think) Barbra Streisand "The Little Drummer Boy" David Bowie and Bing Crosby "I Don't Remember the Name - But it is Awful and Should Never Have Been Recorded" Kid Rock and Cheryl Crowe.

I think the worst song ever is: Oh where, oh where can my baby be? I hate that song. I allways change the statiion when it comes on. You and me both. I've had a lot more years to grit my teeth when it came on. Absolutely HATE that song. Along with "Johnny Angel" and all those type of doo-wops. Worst Christmas song EVER: "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"
