The official site for The Lookout is here: thelookout-movie.com/It has the trailer and other info. Unfortunately I don't think it's getting a wide release, so people outside of the major centres may have to wait for the DVD. Chocky, in the movie they said he went blind in a meth lab. It was unventilated and the fumes blinded him.

Chocky, in the movie they said he went blind in a meth lab. It was unventilated and the fumes blinded him. I don't know much about it but my understanding is that in people blind from birth there is no opportunity for the eye muscles to develop so they have little control over the eyes and in the case of people who are totally blind (from birth or later in life) there is no visual input to fixate on so eyes tend to be roving. If anyone else has any knowledge on this feel free to correct me!

I read that filming has just been completed on "Blindness". It's a movie based on the novel by Jose Saramago. I read it many years ago (surprise! ). It's about a town where everyone suddenly, inexplicably goes blind. I found the novel very confusing and weird, so hopefully the movie will be better.

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who's suggested films in this thread, I've had great fun hunting some of them down I've been lucky enough to find the old disney film 'Love Leads the Way' and though it's a disney film it's actually not too bad I'd especially like to thank Carl for recommending 'a WWII movie with John Garfield' he wasn't sure of the title but i managed to find it with the info he gave and it's called 'Pride of the Marines' someone also suggested 'Ordinary Heroes' with Richard Dean Anderson that film is actually a remake of 'Pride of the Marines' and after watching them both I much prefer the original Also someone recommended a film called 'Bright Victory' now that did take some tracking down but definitely well worth it if you like old classic b&w films I'd already seen the old b&w 'Dark Angel' that's what first got me hooked on films with blind heroes, odd hobby i know but hey... some of you may understand it and I've recently managed to track down a copy on vhs tape but i know a shop that can transfer things to dvd and because the movie is sooooo old they'd no objection re: copyright so I'm now lucky enough to add that to my dvd collection I've also a few films that no-ones mentioned and I can recommend... Blind Man's Bluff (1992) with Robert Urich (there's also an episode of the tv show he did 'Vegas' were his character goes blind for an episode).... The White Countess (2005) with Ralph Fiennes... and also The Four Feathers all three versions are slightly different and equally enjoyable If anyone would like copies of the films that are impossible to find please feel free to drop me a message, i'd be more than happy to do anyone a copy

You know, I really rather liked this one, when I saw it -- I'm guessing seven or eight years ago now. (And, yes, I taped this, so I used to have it on video, too.) Sue me. I like the occasional burst of escapist, melodramatic, angst-ridden rubbish, particular where there is a happy ending. Quite why I liked the film as much as I did was a mystery to me, particularly because there were so many things wrong with it! (Wrong clothes for the time period in which it was set. Wrong telephones for the time period. I'm pretty sure there were other things, too.) Did you know that the film was based on a play? I managed to track down a copy in a library. There were some significant differences in the storyline. Probably the most serious of these was the guy didn't end up with the girl. So, for that reason, I liked the film more. There were other differences, too. Enough differences, I daresay that the film and play ended up being quite different beasts. I seem to remember that, in the play, Kitty had slept with the guy who got blinded before he went off to war. For that reason, she was very interested in helping 'fallen' women, something that her family didn't seem to quite understand. Also, because she wasn't a virgin, she seemed to be very reluctant to go husband hunting, for fear of what he might think when he eventually found out. Krissie <who wonders why she'd never read anything in this thread before tonight>

Thanks for the Karma BarbaraAnn, much appreciated Will I get more if I find a new role for Ron? I was checking my favourite store Mr Amazon and found a japanese movie about a blind guy, called 'Blind Beast' so I checked it out here's the Synopsis... One of the chief purveyors of the Japanese new wave cinema, Yasuzo Masumara is the mastermind behind this frightening and erotic horror film. Based on a short story by Edogawa Rampo, 'Blind Beast' tells the disturbing story of a blind sculptor who is obsessed with the female form. He caters to his unhealthy fixation by kidnapping an artist's model and holding her captive in his studio, exposed to his dirty touch. Presented here in uncut form, 'Blind Beast' is an affecting study of sexual perversion. Don't think I'll be adding that one to my collection Though if they do an american remake which they seem to do alot of, Ron may be after the role, he does seem to be attracted to the darker role I think I even read in an Interview he did, it's something that draws him to a role. I'm gonna give some Karma to Krissie for mentioning that Dark Angel was based on a play!!! I'd no idea and like you I prefer the guy getting the girl so I'm glad they changed that bit I also think it worked better that they never slept together but that's just my opinion. So I think I'll skip trying to find the play. I've also just found another film called Blind Date here's the Synopsis... A man goes blind when remembering his lost girlfriend, but the doctors can't find anything wrong with his eyes. They fit him with an experimental device which allows him to see with the aid of a computer interface and brain electrodes. Meanwhile, a taxi driver is taking young women up to their apartments, giving them gas, and performing a little fatal amateur surgery on them. Their paths inevitably converge, and the blind man must try to stop the psychopath. I have to admit to ordering this one Does that mean i get my karma taken off me

Just rereading this thread and adl's and krissie's posts on The Dark Angel.
I saw it this weekend and cannot believe it--I cried! I so do not usually like romances, but I guess I'm soppy at heart.
Anyway, about Kitty and Alan sleeping together or not. I thought that the implication was that they did, that night when they pretended to get married, and he was off to war again the next day. She was in his hotel room and it seemed like she was there a LONG time. I figured it was the times the film was made, they wouldn't dare show anything but that they did.

I agree with you inuvik i also got the impression that they'd slept together but because of the time it was made they weren't allowed to show it, i remember a lot of b&w films had the married couples sleeping in the same room but single beds instead of a double which i always thought very twee I think Dark Angel dealt with this really well though, the scene in the window is very moving, nothing twee about it

So I was reading your Dark Angel posts, and realised that our very own Merle Oberon is in it. When I say very own, you know how her bios always say that she was from Mumbai - she was actually an Aboriginal woman from Tasmania (Palewa mob)who 'passed' - there was a lot of this!
Anyway, love seeing things with her in it - where can I get Dark Angel from Team BJ?
Tks
