A new gas station opened just down the read a few weeks ago. They had gas at $2:03. Today driving by the price was down to $1.97 . If I had a camera I would have taken a picture. I don't remember the last time it was that low here, but it's been at least 18 months.

Time to revive this thread, unfortunately. Here in Southern California, gas is again at the $3.00/gallon mark. When I came to work this morning, unleaded regular at the station down the street from my office was $2.96/gallon. By the time I went to lunch, the price had jumped to $3.05. Market manipulation? Profiteering? Or just plain greed? Take your pick.

Does that really mean gas has to go up? Who knows.

Gas here was 2.45 when I was running errand this morning. The news at noon said the price raise was due to the fact that the price of a barrel of oil is unchanged ( ) and the fact that the summer driving season is coming up. I guess they wanted to get a jump on things.

Gas is higher here than it's been in a long time. While not back to as bad as it was a year or so ago, it is $1.05/litre (x 4 to get the gallon price).

When I first chanced on this thread, my immediate response was, and that's expensive?!
Assuming I've got my currency and metric/imperial conversions right, we are charged about $6.86 a gallon. (That's for diesel, rather than unleaded, which is a few pence per litre cheaper.) I guess prices in Denmark are pretty similar to here.
I do own a car. (Life here would be very difficult without one.) Thankfully, I get a very good mileage rate out of it!

When I first chanced on this thread, my immediate response was, and that's expensive?! Me too!!!! And don't even get me started on how much we pay for a car here..... The price is at least doubled compared to The US Assuming I've got my currency and metric/imperial conversions right, we are charged about $6.86 a gallon. (That's for diesel, rather than unleaded, which is a few pence per litre cheaper.) I guess prices in Denmark are pretty similar to here. They are, although diesel is cheaper here, it's about 5.60 a gallon. - Chris

You're right, gas prices in the U.S. are still cheap compared to Europe. But what angers me as much as the actual price is the blatant market manipulation that's going on. How stupid do they think we are? I'll answer that: pretty stupid. We Californians are particularly sensitive to that kind of thing after our so-called "energy crisis" a few years ago, which was primarily caused by Enron's manipulation of the electricity supply.
That said, I'd gladly pay more for gas if it would keep our young men and women from being killed and wounded in the oil-driven war in Iraq.
