Kathy, thanks again for more great pictures. What exactly is Longwood Gardens? It's beautiful! Longwood Gardens was orginally an arboretum and working farm owned by two brothers, the Peirces. In 1906 Pierre du Pont purchased the property to save the trees from being used commercially. He created most of what is there today...many many different gardens featuring different themes. They have everything from children's gardens, to cactus displays, to 4000 varieties of orchids, more fountains than any other botanical garden, three tree houses, and things just too numerous to mention!

Thanks so much for posting the pictures, Kathy. As you might have guessed, Longwood Gardens is another place we've both visited. The friends I visit every year at Christmas live in Kennett Square, just down the road from Longwood, and we usually go there at least once during my visit. It looks quite different in the winter, of course, but the Christmas lights and decorations are quite spectacular.

That is amazing - I know it is a very popular place at Christmas. I can see why! Longwood has something different to offer each season. Thanks for posting your pictures too!

Thanks, Kathy. However, in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't take the pictures. I found them on the Internet (of course). And, yes, Christmas at Longwood is very popular -- and crowded!

Wow, those are spectacular pictures. Makes those of us who are gardeners green with envy No matter how much I try, my yard will never ever compete with that. The weeds are tougher and more determined than I am!

I really like those pictures, Kathy. If I ever got a chance to see this place in person, I would thoroughly enjoy it as I love flowers. I bet they are even more amazing in person than in pictures!

You are right and not only for the visual aspect. The fragrances, sounds of the fountains and waterfalls, etc., all heighten the experience.

Saturday I visited the National Aquarium at Baltimore's Inner Harbor with my daughter and grandson. Just as mlm has visited Longwood Gardens, I am certain some of you have been to the Aquarium. I have to say that I was very impressed and Gavin, who is 5, loved it! Here he is watching his FAVORITES at the Aquarium. The jellyfish were my favorite exhibit: I also liked the Animal Planet Australia exhibit. For our friends down under...does this look like home?

I was in RI this past weekend and went to the Roger Williams Park Zoo on Sunday with my son and his family. It's a great little zoo. Here are a couple of the residents.
