It has been a while but well worth the wait. ;D Between Miss Mary and Maeve Rushmore, Christie must have been feeling somewhat...overwhelmed? Hopefully, it will be a routine recovery for Jim, no surprises.

I love this ;D “Christ on a crutch,” Tom said disgustedly. “They were playin’ the Devil Rays. You hook work if they’re playin’ Boston, not those lame-ass Devil Rays. Boss ever finds out you’re in for a major rip.” Marty seems to be heading toward serious trouble Not only did he skip work but for a game against the Devil Rays? ?? Karma - Chris I wholeheartedly agree with Tom- A yankees/Boston game is worth bunking work for. (I'd do it) Now poor Marty is filled with guilt. And I wholeheartedly agree with Chris. Karma from me too for this latest installment, Maggie. So much fun to see another chapter from you. So well written and captivating. Keep em coming.

You are so good Maggie. Your characterisations are wonderful.
Help me out people - how much of big losers are these Devil Rays? (Had to ask, love sport).

Matilda Well they finished the season at the bottom of their division with only 66 wins and 96 losses. So pretty big losers. However at the risk of offending any Tampa DR fans, they do get an A for effort and it's pretty easy to get a ticket to their games. (unlike Boston and NY). And to keep this in the context of the thread, I too, Maggie, loved your characterizations. Marty had no right to shirk his responsibilies to catch that game. Go Maggie! Can't wait for more.

Big, big losers - mind you I support the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Cronulla Sharks and believe me I am not in a position to have a go at anyone else's choice of loser team.
But my real point is Maggie's characterisations - old Marty would be a blokey sporthead and he deserves to support a loser team (mm, begs interesting question, do I? deserve it I mean). Go Mags.

Matilda Thanks for the Go, Mags! but I think I might have to clear up a point here, nminor though it may be. I never mean to imply that Marty was a Devil Rays fan -- I assumed that, like every redblooded male who lives within the five boroughs of New York City, he's a New York Yankees fan. Not that this is anything that a gal from your part of the world needs to know (!), but the rivalry between the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox has been referred to as "the engine that drives the game." Tickets for games between the Yanks and the Sox are hot, and usually sell out long before the season opens. Basically, Tom was chiding Marty for even bothering to see the Yankees play a team of little or no consequence. And the fact that he called in sick to do it makes him even more of a chump.

Thank you Ms Maggie, exactly the Go Mags point - that you've created depth around a character. Thanks for helping me with the nuance Team BJ. And Mags, it's interesting to know. In the long-term study of the Australian man I have found myself inadvertently involved in over some nearly 25 years, I have observed plenty of specimens that would be "dag" (I think I am translating "chump" correctly) enough to do exactly what Marty did (ie skive off work to go and see your team regardless of quality of actual game) and it would be a dead give-away as to level of dagdom. Case in point - Sydney stopped last night for the exhibition game between LA Galaxy/Sydney FC - the Beckham Factor. Dear, darling Anthony La Paglia was all over the TV beside himself with messaniac glee, bless, and Elton John, who is in town, has been seen similarly beside lovely old self. This time 10 years ago you couldn't have filled a suburban football ground for a game of what we call soccer ... And goddess help me, the cricket's season's started. Thanks Team BJ. Cheers Matilda

Hey, totally awesome and cool and all that. I wish it hadn't taken so long but I completely understand. It just gave me an excuse to read the whole thing again myself. Not sure how it should play out but I'll give it some thought. You do have a way with words though and a way of leaving us wanting more. You almost got me feeling sorry for Marty. I love the little bit of humor in such a serious situation. And Miss Mary? What is there to say about her? A no nonsense ball of fire with a heart of gold under it all I suspect.
Whatever happens--and like I said, I'll think about it--don't make us wait if you can help it. This is too good.
I miss BJ fanfic so if anyone else wants to write some too.....(Maybe just a teeny hint?)

Hooray -- a new chapter! I love the evocation of the beginning of the story and the flashback to the Pilot. Mags, I'm so glad you weren't all written out after finishing The Book.

Oh boy, I just found a new chapter from Maggie. "been too long". But alas I must start from the beginning and no time this AM. So something to look forward to. Thanks Maggie...."now we know" what you have been so busily writing.....and you said you were writing a book. Oh that's right, you have been. Glad you found time for this too.

I'm glad too that you found the time. Can't keep a good man down and all that ;D The description of removing the tube made my throat hurt to read it. Ugh. And I also liked the flashback to the bank. You could see how he would have been confused. My first thought was that Tunney would somehow make an appearence. Now wouldn't that make Jimmy's day? Not!

Back to the old drawing board . . . Thanks and karma to mlm, who oh-so-gently pointed out to me that when you're on a ventilator your vocal chords are immobilized so you can't even groan . . . which gave me the delicious opportunity to rewrite that scene and also add in some interplay between Jim and Maeve Rushmore, who is almost as much of a pisser as Miss Mary. And that led to another round of editing and tweaking, and so I took down last night's Chapter Three and posted a new one. ;D So ya'll have to do a bit of rereading . . . sorry! But it really is better. Jeez, if only someone would pay me for this stuff -- it is so much fun! ;D
