To Lori and all the other Moonlight fans, I feel like I should offer my condolences to you. It sounds like it was a very special show, and I am a bit sorry that I did not get into it. I think the Friday night slot just didn't work for me, and the parts of a few episodes I watched did not get me excited to see more, but I can tell that many many people really loved it. The letter by Alex brought tears to my eyes, so I can imagine how it affected you. And the response from the set crew was also very heartfelt. You can tell that these people really respected their fans, and the fact that it was doing well, and was expected to have a second season must make it that much harder to bear. I wish I could make you feel better. Mary
I hate all the reality tv that is so prevalent now, and it's popularity is killing a lot of great TV. So many fine shows are falling by the wayside so people can watch a lot of other people make fools out of themselves...yuck.

Ah, thanks Mary! I'm not really sure what makes this one so hard to lose - haven't really figured that part out yet - but it almost feels like we are going to miss someone who has become a really good friend, someone we have had a 16 week intimate relationship with...and we want more. There was something so incredible about these characters, the believable connection between Mick and Beth, the sarcastic bantering between Mick and Joseph, and more than that, the portrayal of Mick, the manner in which Alex O'Loughlin breathed his whole heart and soul into bringing Mick St. John to life. ...I will miss seeing the excellence of that performance.

Lori - thanks for sharing the letters from Alex and the crew. It is such a shame that the series has to end. I really enjoyed it and thought that it was doing nothing but getting better!!!
I agree with Mary that there is just too much reality programming these days. It certainly doesn't leave much time for the writers/directors/actors to fill!

I read this in the newest TV Guide -- the shows (Moonlight and Jericho) weren't " big enough, a network exec says. It has nothing to do with if they're good" Huh? Is it just me or does this not sound right? I guess like everything else it comes down to the almighty dollar. Instead of quality, better to have something that brings in the big sponsor bucks and reaches that target demographic. Sheesh. Only good thing is Alex O'Loughlin is now deemed a highly prized commodity and they (TV Guide) urged that he be snapped up for a new project pronto.

Lori, the letters from Alex and the crew were nice. Good to know that they care - not only about the show but also about their fans. I read this in the newest TV Guide -- the shows (Moonlight and Jericho) weren't " big enough, a network exec says. It has nothing to do with if they're good" Huh? Is it just me or does this not sound right? I guess like everything else it comes down to the almighty dollar. Only good thing is Alex O'Loughlin is now deemed a highly prized commodity and they (TV Guide) urged that he be snapped up for a new project pronto. So that's why we get all these crappy shows, because they sell lots of commercials??? Whatever happened to artistic integrity or making Tv shows for the love of the craft? Hoosier, you're right; Sheesh!!!! - Chris

From a recent article regarding shows that have been cancelled but should have been given at least one more season to connect with the audience:
“Moonlight” Why it should have been renewed: It might have been the lowest-rated of CBS’s Friday night dramas, but "Moonlight" still consistently won its time slot against ABC and NBC offerings. That’s impressive, considering all of the tinkering that went on at this series about a blood-sucking private investigator. After multiple show-runner changes and a few shaky scripts, “Moonlight” seemed to just be settling into a charming routine in its post-strike episodes. Series highlight: As brooding vampire Mick St. John, Alex O’Loughlin injected equal parts hot and cool into his leading-man role. A flash of his smile could make even an undead pulse quicken. Silver lining: Fans should congratulate themselves on the most charitable “save our show” campaign ever. A well-orchestrated blood drive organized through YouChoose.net might not have been able to save the series, but it did help save lives. Mick would be proud.
And:
“New Amsterdam” Why it should have been renewed: After a lackluster pilot, Fox’s “New Amsterdam” surged creatively, mining its formula to set itself apart from other crime shows. The series starred Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as John, a New York detective who was cursed to live forever until he found true love. Each episode included a story set sometime in the immortal hero’s past. Airing only eight episodes, the series left plenty of holes in John’s sprawling past. Series highlight: Those flashbacks were almost always a kick, but the awkward relationship between John and his physically much older son (and sole confidante) spoke to the heart of John’s relationship problems. Silver lining: It’s hard to find one. At least this show gave Coster-Waldau some well-deserved exposure.
Another SILVER LINING in the Moonlight cloud - it has been announced that it will be released to DVD in the fall! I've already signed up for my pre-order!

Thanks for posting Lori...I am/was a fan of both shows and felt that both had improved with each episode. Therefore, I was disappointed to hear that both series had been cancelled. It says something, though, that Moonlight will be released so promptly on DVD!!!!

What it says to me is that this might just be the single best selling DVD release in television history - I think I know wheree there might be a fan base of about 8 million who will be lining up to snap it up!

Yes, both had only gotten better when the dreaded ax fell When so much is invested in creating and promoting a show you would think the networks would be willing to give them a chance to develop a following. Sometimes it takes time, and word of mouth, to gain an audience. At least Moonlight will soon be on dvd and I will certainly be adding it to my collection ;D

I got an alert from tvshowsondvd that Moonlight is expected to be out in September! It said that producer Harry Werksman was at the MoonlightCon in LA and announced that plus the fact the Alex O'Loughlin would be doing commentary on "at least some of the episodes". There is also a soundtrack from the series "in the works." Funny, I can't really recall any soundtrack. I guess I was focused on something else. Anyway, at least this one seems to be catering to fans needs. Now if the powers that be who have control of another show would take heed....

I might be wrong but didn't Blind Justice have about 8 million viewers watch it at one time or another? I wish the powers that be could release it as well as Moonlight.

No, you're not wrong - unfortunately, though, that was just one week! BJ went from, if I am not mistaken, about 14 million viewers, to 8, to 6, to 4 by the time Fancy Footwork aired. Moonlight has held a very consistent 8 million (sometimes a few hundred thousand less) throughout its 16 episodes. Some of the music used in Moonlight has been absolutely fabulous and I think offered so much to the "atmosphere" if you will. Many of these bands and artists I had never heard of but I have now downloaded - Gavin Rossdale, Bif Naked, Mazzy Star, etc. Moonlight is not dead yet...and the fight continues!
