Even though the groundhog saw his shadow winter is hanging on. Rain transitioned into snow which is now sticking and the roads are getting slick. Will make walking not to mention driving a tad exciting.

Saturday people were running aroung the t-shirts and shorts . Sunday 8 inches of snow! Today still flurries. I saw in the newspaper that some courts in Ohio are thinking of suing Pautauxney Phil for mispredicting an early spring!

I read that too and it didn't appear as though they were joking. If not, it's a bit silly. All in good fun. Poor Phil! He's so cute.

Yes it is. You notice Phil doesn't voluntarily leave his place, they always have to drag him out. I think I heard the groundhog is only about 30% accurate anyway.

Yesterday it was in the 70's and nearly 3 inches of rain. Today standing water, high so far 39 plus light snow flurries and sleet. I saw two men mowing the grass while it snowed. Welcome to spring in Indiana!

What a difference a year makes! Last year hot (100-106) and dry dry dry. Today and the past week have been muggy and steamy with humid. We have had lots of rain. Yesterday just south of here they had 6 inches of rain Needless to say flooding ensued! Some people had 14 inches in their basements. Hate to say I have that beat but in January we had 15 inches and it took out the furnance. Of course it was like 16 degrees at the time!

The first sticking snow of the season! And since we have rain before it turned to snow had that nice choppy icy residue all over the car Now I think the old saying is the date of the first measurable snow is how many snows you can have so is that 11 or 12 since it happened overnight

Wow talk about weather extremes! Sunday morning was warm and very windy. A line of supercells developed and came ripping through in the afternoon. The tornado siren was going off here but we were lucky in we just had the winds--well, they were in excess of 45-50 mph!--and some rain. They estimate about 20 tornados hit throughout the state. A small town just north of us had 12 homes and 2 businesses destroyed but thankfully no one killed or injured. Lots of damage in several towns and cities--Kokomo was especially hard hit. At home we had lots of branches and limbs down and a co-worker had some minor roof damage. It could have been so much worse.

Yes, saw it on the news and it looked awful! Glad your place was spared. Thanks. There were 23 confirmed tornados hit Indiana Sunday. It was a miracle no one was killed. Early warnings gave people time to take shelter. One the news at noon they had video some shot of the storm hitting their area. Me, I would have been hunkered down!

Stepped right from fall into the middle of winter. This mornings temp 2 below zero. We didn't get as much snow as some last week--only around 2 inches--but more is expected this weekend. There has been a lot of black ice on the roads; last weekend two people were killed in separate accidents. During the weather report the other day one asked the meteorologist if an early winter meant an early spring!

Walkin' in a winter wonderland... A storm system is going through. We already have about 5 inches of the white stuff. Its the wet kind with big fat flakes. Its tampering off some now. The roads are slick--my sister said she saw a fender bender earlier. Funny thing a tree up the street from my house still has its leaves. Its not an oak but a gum tree and a late-dropper but its still odd seeing the snow on the leaves.

Earlier this week we had 4 1/2 to 5 inches of snow and the temp 7 below. Now they are forecasting a winter storm that could dump up to a foot of snow with wind chills of 32 below We've been hopping with people loading up on reading material and the stores have been full of those buying bread, milk and toliet paper--staples for Indiana storms. This weather will be heading east after hitting us so batten down the hatches!

Didn't drop off the face of the earth just got snowed in for a couple of days. We had between 11 and 12 inches of snow but what really hurt was the wind chill--between 30 and 35 below zero I went out twice a day to run the car and fill bird feeders wearing two pair of socks, three pair of gloves, three scarves, a windbreaker under my coat, earmuffs and hat and leg warmers. I was really worried about the car when they said antifreeze in only good to minus 45. For the first time I had to have the driveway plowed out and today was the first day I actually moved the car after getting the majority of snow and ice off. Some people have told me their water pipes had frozen--thankfully we had no problem because we banked that wall with straw bales. The schools are still closed and some roads still impassable. All in all quite the experience. Haven't seen the like since the blizzard of 1978.

Google images has some great pics of the effect of the polar vortex that dumped the snow and bitter cold on us this week. The neatest are the "polar vortex great lake images from space". You can just see the outline of the Great Lakes under the swirling clouds.
